Nei mesi di marzo ed aprile del 1984 si era svolta la mostra “Arte di frontiera” presso la Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna di Bologna ideata dalla ricercatrice Francesca Alinovi (prematuramente morta qualche mese prima), prima ad aver portato in Italia un progetto ed una mostra interamente dedicati alla scena del Graffiti Writing e della Street Art americana. Durante il periodo della mostra il meglio dell’arte d’avanguardia newyorchese si trovava in Italia e in occasione della mostra quattro artisti (Delta 2, Ero, Phase 2 e Rammellzee) furono invitati dalla IVI Spa – Industrie Vernici Italiane, quale sponsor dell’evento, in visita allo stabilimento di Quattordio. Fu così che, nel periodo tra giugno e luglio, i writers trascorsero molti giorni in azienda e a contatto con la popolazione, integrandosi con le usanze piemontesi certamente differenti da quelle della metropoli americana. Realizzarono in azienda e in paese molte opere, schizzi e graffiti utilizzando qualsiasi tipo di vernice o resina, applicandoli sui più disparati oggetti: pannelli metallici, tele, auto, una Vespa, addirittura un pullman, ma la maggior espressione artistica la misero sul muro della piazzetta centrale del paese, utilizzando bombolette spray. Negli anni successivi tale opera assumerà grande rilevanza poichè fu il primo storico graffito realizzato su muro in Italia da writers americani.Da questa storica operazione culturale nacque il doppio volume “Arte di Frontiera”, edito da Mazzotta nel 1984, suddiviso in “New York Graffiti” e in “Quattordio Graffiti”, quest’ultimo completamente dedicato alla jamming avvenuto presso la IVI Industrie Vernici Italiane che ospitò i massimi esponenti di quell’arte d’avanguardia newyorchese.

In March and April 1984, the exhibition “Arte di frontiera” (frontier Art) took place at the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, conceived by the researcher Francesca Alinovi (who had died prematurely a few months earlier), the first to have brought to Italy a project and an exhibition entirely dedicated to the American Graffiti Writing and Street Art scene. During the period of the exhibition, the best of New York avant-garde art was in Italy, and on the occasion of the exhibition four artists (Delta 2, Ero, Phase 2 and Rammellzee) were invited by IVI Spa – Industrie Vernici Italiane, as sponsor of the event, to visit the Quattordio factory. Thus between June and July, the writers spent many days in the company and in contact with the population, integrating themselves with Piedmontese customs that were certainly different from those of the American metropolis. They created many works, sketches and graffiti in the company and in the village using any kind of paint or resin, applying them to the most diverse objects: metal panels, canvases, cars, a Vespa, even a bus, but the greatest artistic expression was on the wall of the village’s central square, using spray cans. In the following years, this work would take on great relevance as it was the first historical graffiti created on a wall in Italy by American writers. This historic cultural operation gave rise to the double volume “Arte di Frontiera”, published by Mazzotta in 1984, divided into “New York Graffiti” and “Quattordio Graffiti”, the latter completely dedicated to the jamming that took place at the IVI Industrie Vernici Italiane that hosted the greatest exponents of that avant-garde New York art.
